An Amazing Slice of Life Story, Bundled with Determination, Romace, Family and Friendship; Welcome to HANASAKU IROHA

Pardon the some what cheesy title, but those are the only words I could pull from my vocabulary to bottle this 26 episode anime into one sentence.

I had this anime hiding on my external for a while now, but never really paid attention to it. However, after I finished watching this series, the feeling I had was similar to that of finding money or a sweet piece of candy in your pants pocket. It's just too good to be true~

(Incomplete) Cast from Left to Right; Denroku, Toru, Ren, Minko, Ohana, Nako, Tomoe, Jiroumaru, Takako and Enishi

Ohana Matsumae is a 16 year old Tokyo native living with her single mother. She goes to school with her best friend Koichi, to whom she confesses that she is beginning to feel bored with her life in Tokyo and reveals she doesn't have a steady future plan for herself.

Ironically, her life takes a turn for the "dramatic". As she comes home from school that day she finds out her mother and current boyfriend are leaving together to elope, as he has fallen into debt.

Ohana goes to see Koichi after his night shift at his part time job, to tell him the news. Since her mother is eloping and does not want to take Ohana with her, she sends her to Kissui Inn. An inn run by Ohana's estranged grandmother in the country side.

Koichi becomes frustrated with this news and blurts out to Ohana that he is in love with her, however he runs away before Ohana can say anything.

Unsure of what to say, Ohana leaves the next day for Kissui Inn.

After an altercation with one of the staff members, Ohana meets her grandmother, who immediately puts her to work cleaning the inn. Her grandmother, Madam Manager Sui, states that Ohana's mother, Satsuki, is her "disowned" daughter, therefore, she will not treat Ohana as a granddaughter but as an empoyee.

Ohana has an eventful day, meeting her Uncle, getting a tour from the Head Waitress Tomoe and is slowly getting a feel for the Kissui Inn.

The next day Ohana tries to get used to her duties at the inn and wants to make peace with her roommate, the employee she had an altercation with the day before, Minko. Unfortunately, she only makes the situation worse, involving a guest and a falling futon.

Ohana is not spoiled, for she has lived with a woman who was not a very good role model, she would always take on tasks such as cooking and cleaning. However, she has some trouble in the beginning grasping the concept of "work".

A frustrated Ohana continues her new duties doing her best to take advantage of her strange, new, hectic life and is determined improve herself for the better, as well as make friends with all of the employees at Kissui Inn so that they may all look forward to the continuing growth of Kissui Inn.

This anime series was produce by P.A. Works, the same group who produced the series True Tears, Angel Beats!, Another and a new anime called Tari Tari.

Beautiful animation, not only with the characters, but with the setting and scenery as well.
To me, P.A. Works also has this strange but amazing way of animating eyes. The eyes of the characters always seem to have a special kind of flare to them. Although Angel Beats and True Tears have a slightly different flare compared to Tari Tari, Another and Hanasaku Iroha, they sparkle just the same~
Wakana from TariTari

Mei's doll eye from Another

Noe from True Tears

Tenshi from Angel Beats!

Ohana form Hanasaku Iroha

Whenever there is a series produced by P.A. Works, always expect beautiful and CONSISTENT artwork and a loveable storyline you can't help but fall in love with. (Even if it's a horror story). Personally, they never let me down.

The music is similar to that of True Tears and Angel Beats, giving you that true "slice of life" feel.
This is definitely an anime I plan on showing my children! ... On second thought, I'll wait until they're a bit older, as some of the scenes include suggestive moments and fanservice...

Either way, if you're looking for a break from horrors or action fantasies, I urge you to watch Hanasaku Iroha.

A hectic beginning with any even more hectic storyline, a few moments of sadness to a point where it feels like everything is going to fall apart... Then a nice quick kick into gear and all the parts start moving to a very satisfying ending~
